Last weekend, a friend treated us to a Polish food ‘experiment’: beet soup with dumplings and warm beer.
Wait, no. That didn’t sound so great. Let me rephrase:
Barszcz uses both whole beets and beet concentrate, which can usually be found at a Polish grocery store. It’s doesn’t have an overwhelming taste and, unlike a lot of pre-made American broths, it’s not salty. Mmmm.
Grzaniec is a mulled beer. It was painfully cold in Bielefeld this weekend, so it was a welcome treat.
The pictures were taken with my phone, and I wish they could do the meal better justice. We finished off with some diabetes-inducing brownies (yes, I brought those) and the decidedly non-Polish movie Kick-Ass, which I highly recommend.
