Getting Around Amsterdam

Overheard while trying to cross the street in Amsterdam:

Older American man: “There are so many bikes here!”

Older American woman: “Well, that’s just what they do here! They all ride bikes.”

This is true. Crossing the street as a pedestrian is terrifying. Trying to drive a car in Amsterdam seems even worse. Here are the seemingly preferred modes of travel:


It’s easy to find a place to leave your bike and take a walk:

Or you can smoke cigars on your fancy houseboat:


Or if you’re really lucky, you can just flap your wings to get around:

  1. Your talk of bikes is sorely making me miss the Bakfiets (Dutch cargo bike) I used to “drive” my kids around Cambridge, UK in…! Looks like you had a great trip to Amsterdam.
